A great station that's part of the Transportation Hub in Jamaica, NY (with connections to MTA NYC Subway (E) (J) (Z) & AirTrain to JFK Airport Terminals) Rating: 100/100

You can find me here every weekday waiting for the 4:06pm, thanks to the addition of the new GC terminal that obliterated any direct Huntington train from Penn between 3:22 & 4:21 pm. But, I will say, it is typically smooth sailing here at Jamaica. And for my transfer, I simply walk right across from 7 to 8. They do a great job with the announcemnts or track changes and the sign is always correct & up to date. I used to dread Jamaica as a kid..meaning the worst possible thing in a commute was to have to change at Jamaica. But once you know the flow, it is very simple. They keep the platform & waiting area very clean. I almost never see people hanging out who are not waiting for a train..on the platform. Go upstairs to the JFK AirTrain & it's another story, lots of people loitering up there but no one bothers you. I'm sometimes there super early when the sun is rising, and less often very late at night..I always feel safe (unless there is a Rangers game, that's another type of unsafe)

This seems to be a hub station to get around pretty much everywhere. We were able to easily get here from JFK airport and then out to Long Island. Train system is easy especially with the train app called Traintime. You can purchase tickets that way. Otherwise you can buy tickets at the kiosk.

After departing AirTrain JFK, I had to make a decision on how I had planned to get to Manhattan. Other than the pace of so many travelers coming in-and-out of Jamaica LIRR Station, I felt slightly overwhelmed by the many options presented whether it be for the subway or rail system. An employee off to the side recommended the rail system, but I ended up catching the subway instead because of there being less get off and get back on a different ride. At the time, I just wanted a commute with less exiting other than exiting to walk to my destination. Google Maps guided me on the transit route I was most comfortable with which was a huge relief. It is from Jamaica LIRR Station where you will connect to either Jamaica Center - Parsons/ Archer or AirTrain JFK which both are within walking distance from each other. I advise you to ask questions or take a look at the signage clearly before choosing your option. I do anticipate returning to New York in time now that I have a better feel of navigating to-and-from Jamaica LIRR Station. ~Have courage. Be Kind. ~ Thomas G
